What is a CIC?

A community interest company (or CIC) is a special form of non-charitable limited company, which exists primarily to benefit a community or with a view to pursuing a social purpose, rather than to make a profit for shareholders. We are restered with and regulated by The Office of the Regulator of Community Interest Companies. We are 100% not for profit and as a regulated CIC this ensures that funds invested in a CIC will continue to benefit social or charitable ends, even if the CIC itself is no more.

The organisations objects

The objects of Holistic Reflections CIC are to carry on activities which benefit the wider community and in particular (without limitation) to provide services, events and products which promote well-being, performance and lasting resilience in people and horses in Cumbria and the surrounding area. We also promote environmentally sensitive equine management systems which benefit the wider community and advance the quality of life of domestic horses. In addition, we preserve and maintain a registered monument for the benefit of all.

Our activities

1. to create and run a healing centre in a rural setting where services and events are held which promote well-being, performance and lasting resilience in people

The healing centre delivers Equine Facilitated Learning therapeutic and other services and features a 7 acre equestrian facility, therapy room and workshop. Mobile services and events are also provided in the community, workplace, clinic or home. The centre will provide a number of full and part-time jobs. Our services and events can benefit anyone and surplus created from trading activities will benefit the community by helping to provide services and events for free to people and animals in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, financial hardship or other disadvantage and via distribution to other charities and social enterprises. The Regulators consent will be sought before each transfer of surplus will be made to the other charities and social enterprises.

2. to promote well-being, performance and lasting resilience in horses

The centre adopts and promotes environmentally sound management systems for the keeping of domestic horses. This supports the local ecosystem by reducing soil erosion and increasing biodiversity and the whole community benefits from this. In addition, it supports the health of the horse; demonstrates compassionate equestrianism. We also offer therapeutic services for horses which promote well-being, performance and lasting resilience in domestic horses, thus supporting the local equestrian community. In addition, surplus created from trading activities will benefit the community by helping to provide services and events for free to people and animals in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, financial hardship or other disadvantage and via distribution to other charities and social enterprises. The Regulators consent will be sought before each transfer of surplus will be made to the other charities and social enterprises.

3. to sell products which predominantly support well-being and resilience

Our products can benefit anyone and surplus created from trading activities will benefit the community by helping to provide services and events for free to people and animals in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, financial hardship or other disadvantage and distribution to other charities and social enterprises. The Regulators consent will be sought before each transfer of surplus will be made to the other charities and social enterprises.

4. we preserve and maintain an ancient monument registered with Cumbria Sites and Monuments Record (SMR No. 40367).

This will benefit the community by preserving and giving access to a local heritage site.

What we do with surplus money?

If the company makes any surplus it will be used for benefiting the community in and around Cumbria by providing the same services and events for free to people and animals in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, financial hardship or other disadvantage and via distribution to other charities and social enterprises. The Regulators consent will be sought before each transfer of surplus will be made to the other charities and social enterprises.
